It's been almost 7 years since my last blog post.
Just writing that down makes me sad (and cringe a little bit too!). Being fair to myself, that time away lines up with when my eldest daughter Alice came on the scene…and to be doubly fair, her sister Izzy turned up a couple of years after that too.
So, although I haven't been writing much, it's been a busy 7 years.
So what have I been doing since my last post…
Well, besides the whole looking after two small children thing, I was promoted to a Principal Engineer at Just Eat Takeaway, leading the creation of our global design system, PIE – which amazingly won an award in the Zeroheight Design System awards last year.
I also developed a dynamic Yoto card as part of the 2025 Yoto developer challenge called Animal Facts, which my daughter, Alice, narrates. There's too much to cover about this little adventure here, so I'll save that for another post in the coming weeks.
And a couple of months ago, I launched the Frontend Guidelines YouTube channel. As of this writing, I've only published one video, but now I've finished reworking this site the plan is that I'll have more time to spend on putting together the content I want to across both places now. That's the plan in my head anyway as I write this.
So that's the high level summary. Expect more posts about all of those things in the not so distant future.
I'm very much seeing this new coat of paint as a fresh start.
I've really missed having an outlet to just write down my thoughts and send them out onto the web for others to make of what they will. That's what I loved about this space (and the web in general) in the first place and that's my plan for it going forward. Fingers crossed, you might even get something out of what I write down too 🙂
Oh, and I can promise you no AI slop posts here too – this is all just me mashing my fingers into the keyboard (and for the record, I just like using em–dashes, that's me too). I'll be writing about AI, but not using AI to write.
As ever – if you've got any thoughts, comments, ideas, I'd love to hear from you. Drop me a comment on this post, an email, or a message on Bluesky.
